Dr. Trishanna Sookdeo is a primary care physician with dual certifications in family medicine and obesity medicine. With more than 14 years of experience, she has a passion for providing personalized, compassionate care for each of her patients
Dr. Sookdeo takes a hands-on approach to treatment, fostering open communication to ensure patients understand and are comfortable with their options. She believes that quality care means treating the whole patient, not just their symptoms. As lead practitioner and founder of The Skin Secret FL, her goal is to expand her services to meet the cosmetic goals and skin health needs of men and women in Winter Garden, FL.
Having grown up in the Caribbean, Dr. Sookdeo received her medical degree from the University of West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. She completed internships in pediatrics, internal medicine, general surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology during her studies. After earning her degree, she worked as a community health and primary care physician in Trinidad.
After relocating to the U.S. with her husband, Dr. Sookdeo completed her residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., serving as chief research and quality improvement resident during her last year. She was honored with the Award for Excellence in Research and the Research Day Award Certificate of Achievement during her residency. She also earned a master's in public health with distinction from Capella University during this time.
Dr. Sookdeo's passion for education extends to teaching, as well. In 2015, she moved to Florida with her family and worked as a family medicine physician in Davenport, FL until 2020. During that time, she also held a position as an assistant professor for the University of Central Florida. Her research has been featured in numerous medical journals, and she has had the privilege of sharing her expertise with colleagues and the public in various presentations and seminars over the years.
As the owner of Sookdeo Family Medicine, Dr. Sookdeo specializes in caring for and preventing acute illness and chronic disease. Her areas of interest include preventive care and screenings, management of acute illness and long-term care, patient safety, quality health improvement, and patient advocacy.
Dr. Sookdeo is a proud member of the Florida Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, where she serves on the Membership Innovation Committee.
